would you put a gps tracker on your teens car?

There’s this new technology out now that lets you put a tracker on cars, so you can set the max speed the car can go, and how many miles from your house it can go. You get a phone call/text message if the car goes farther.. Would you put something like this on your kids car?

I think i’m one of a very small percent of teens that never tried to go fast… i don’t think i’ve ever gone over 65mph.

actually what you are describing is a govenor.
the govenor is a speed limiting device, often used in school buses, that limits the speed of that vehicle. when it reaches that limit and the driver tries to surpass it, the govenor will stop any acceleration. as for putting it into a teen’s vehicle, it would do more harm than help, just because your kid(s) arent going fast doesnt mean that the people around them arent. i wouldnt recomend using it.
as for the gps, i would use that. it would be wise to get it so that it’s attached to the engine and so that if its removed, the car wont run, so that way they cant remove it if its found.
    good luck.

definately. they also have these new bumper stickers like the semi trucks have that ask "Hows my driving?" and gives a phone number for people to call.

No. There is this thing called trust. People need to talk to and lay down rules for their children not treat them like criminals. All this tracking stuff is ridiculous. Put an ankle bracelet on him why don’t you?

No. I already know they drive just as fast as me, lol.

I think it is an excellent idea. The truth is that children, even teens need to have limits and boundaries. If for no other reason than that they have the perfect answer when one of the other kids is trying to influence them to making poor decisions.

    Good Luck.

I probably would or will. They also have a cell phone with GPS that I’m thinking about too once my kids get old enough for cell phones.

As a mother of 2 teenage boys I can honestly say I would not put a tracker on their cars. If you can’t trust them to tell you what their doing, they shouldn’t be driving.

I will have one for my daughter. I am not worried so much that she wont be honest with me, she is a very good girl, but my thing is there are so many perverts out there today that she could do something as innocent as stop at a target store and be kidnapped and killed. I would want to know that I could track her position to try to keep her out of harms way not so much as let me spy into your life.
Like I said I feel these are more for helping keep kids safe than to invade thier privacy. Plus if they know they have it on the car , if they go out of the boundaries so to speak , they know it will call. So how can it be invasion of privacy, when they are aware it is there.

the gps thing is good , the bad thing is my kids drive like there mom…. fast. so i can’t really fault them but still i think that’s a loss of privacy, no matter what

Absolutely. I don’t say this because of not trusting my kids, I say it because I’m a mom that worries. My children aren’t old enough to drive yet, but my oldest only has a few years before he will be. Obviously I hope that I’m raising them to be responsible young adults. I just think that a GPS would be a good idea.

yes, i would do that if it were affordable … i’m antique now (i’m 43), but i remember how is was to be 16 and have the car out by yourself, just you and your friends and the radio blasting and the next thing you know, you’re doing 65 mph through the middle of town.

Peer pressure is tough, and it would be an easy out for my son to take ("i can’t, my folks that that stupid tracking thing on my car!)

Absolutely we will be installing such things on our kids cars. I trust my kids. I don’t trust carjackers or other equally scary people. If for some reason such a problem occured, I would want my children to know that we are watching and will be there ASAP. It’s not about trusting my kids. It’s about protecting them. They can always call to let us know that there isn’t a problem. But if there is a problem, they may not be able to. I would like them to have the security of knowing we will be there ASAP.

I would. they are our responsibility until they turn 18.

If I can afford it when she’s old enough to drive, it’s going on. She doesn’t get my trust out of the gate- it will be earned.
